Submitting a Concealed Weapon License Application |
||
Beginning October 2009, individuals who want to obtain a Florida Concealed Weapon or Firearm License can submit their applications directly to one of the Division of Licensing's eight Regional Offices located throughout the state. The concealed weapon license application intake service at our Regional Offices is designed to allow applicants to complete the entire application process quickly and conveniently. You simply have to call for an appointment. The Regional Office intake service is also intended to streamline the application screening and review process, thereby reducing the time it takes our Division to issue a license once the application package arrives in Tallahassee. Because applications submitted at our Regional Offices will be pre-screened for completion prior to their being forwarded to Tallahassee, there is less likelihood that the applications will include errors or omissions that will result in processing delays. Below are answers to some of the more commonly asked questions about the Regional Office intake service.

Will it cost more for me to go to a Regional Office to submit my application? No, you will pay the same fee as you would if you were to simply mail your application directly to the Division of Licensing in Tallahassee. The total fee for the concealed weapon license is $117.00. This total consists of two separate fees: an application fee ($75.00) and a fingerprint-processing fee ($42.00). |

What should I bring with me to the Regional Office? You should have with you the following items/documents when you arrive at the Regional Office:

You can make an appointment by calling whichever one of the eight Regional Offices that is most convenient for you. If, for some reason, you are unable to keep your appointment, please call the Regional Office at least 24 hours prior to the time you are scheduled to appear if at all possible so that your appointment time can be assigned to another applicant.
What will happen once I arrive at the Regional Office? First, one of our staff members will direct you to a computer station where you will complete an on-line application form. (Please note that you do not need to complete an application form in advance of your appointment.) We will then review your application for completeness and notarize it. Then, we will take your photograph and electronically scan your fingerprints.
How long will it take to do this? You should be able to complete the entire process in an hour or less.
How long will it be before I get my license? We should be able to issue your license within 3-4 weeks of your visit to the Regional Office. However, turnaround times will vary depending upon our workload. Moreover, if the criminal history background check yields results that we must research in order to determine your eligibility (or if those results are incomplete and we have to request additional information from you), this may further delay the processing of your application and the issuance of your license.
How can I confirm that I am eligible for a concealed weapon license before going to the Regional Office? You can review the basic eligibility requirements for the Florida Concealed Weapon or Firearm License. You can also take a few moments to take our online preliminary eligibility determination questionnaire.
